Is it Safe for Obese People to Scuba Dive?


Health is the major concern before going on any adventure. In escapades like scuba diving, there are a number of peculiarities due to health issues which can make a diver uncomfortable. One such issue is obesity because of which divers need to carry some extra volume of their body mass along with other scuba diving equipment. Salty water and bigger wet suits made from neoprene add to the buoyancy of obese divers in comparison with those with average body weight. In order to make up this buoyancy different and achiever a stable one, obese divers need to carry heavier belts which means more effort and energy is required to swim through the water kingdom while taking some scuba diving photos of its critters and flora. This also increases the breathing capacity of such divers which instills the need of bigger air tanks. 

There are certain conditions like overheating, joints problems, breathing difficulties, decompression sickness etc. which are more associated with obese divers and increase their need of consulting a physician before start on their scuba diving trip. Despite all this, what matters inside water is the comfort level of a diver. So if you are comfortable inside water with high body mass index, you can go for scuba diving!  Though difficulties are more for the obese people and their condition can be worse under the sea, doors are not completely closed for them for scuba diving. Only thing they need to follow is to take complete guidance of a doctor about their health so that remedies are available in time. Also taking company of an experienced co-scuba diver is wise so that if obese divers get in trouble inside water, their guide divers can assist them in their situation and also help them click good scuba diving photos! So if you are an obese, be aware of difficulties that may arise under the sea and dive safe.
